As the "apple core with bell" is shown in the 1890's Hampson and Scott's Equine Album it is a pucker manufacturers variation.

This is one of a set of 3, "PINZA", "PAPPA FOURWAYS" and "EARLY MIST", produced for Wetherall's of Bond Street, during the 1950's. The originals, like this one, were stamped/embossed. On some there was writing on the backs as well, possibly several variations, we need more front and back photos to catalogue all the variations. The fine detailing made them good patterns for casting replicas, so there are many cast variations as well.

Another modified 'apple core', again with the notch and clear marks from where bell was hung. 10904 is the 'other' modified 'apple core'

Interesting, this is a modified 'apple core' design with the middle removed and the horse head added. Additionally there is an odd notch at 12 o'clock, I suspect this is here a bell was hung prior to the head being added (there is an apple core with bell on eBay at the moment). I do not know if the addition of the bell or horse head were done by the original manufacturer or later by a creative owner.
